The Terrapins are coming off their first win of the season, with a 1-0 win over Towson on Sunday. The Terrapins handed Towson it's first loss of the season and dominated the whole match. The Terps only allowed three shots on goal in the match and kept the Tigers from getting any clear shots on goal.
Series History - George Mason
- Maryland and George Mason have met 26 times in a series that dates back to 1987. Maryland leads the series 19-6-1 and is currently on a four game win streak against George Mason.
- The two teams met last season, with the Terrapins picking up a 3-0 over the Patriots. Alina Stahl, Sofi Vinas, and Alyssa Poarch got on the score sheet for the Terps in the game. Catherine DeRosa assisted two goals, while Sofi Vinas picked up an assist to go along with the goal she scored in the match. The win was also the first for Coach Meghan Ryan Nemzer in her career.

Last Time Out
- The Terrapins picked up their first win of the 2023 season as they defeated the Towson Tigers on Sunday, Sept. 3. The Terrapins had many opportunities to get on the board in the first half, but couldn't get the ball in the back of the net. In the 51st minute, Kennedy Bell went down the left wing in the counter attack and used a bit of hesitation to get around the defender just outside the box. After Bell got around the defender, she sent a ball across the box to the feet of Ava Morales who slotted a ball pass the keeper to give the Terps the lead. The Terps were able to hold onto the lead due in part to the back line, which only allowed three shots on target in the match.
Freshman of the Week
- Maryland's Kennedy Bell earned Freshman of the Week Honors after her performance during last week's matches against Towson and VCU.
- Bell's assist in the second half, helped push the Terrapins to their first win of the season. Bell also played as a member of the defense that had two clean sheets and only allowed a total of six shots on goal across the two matches.
- This is the second year in a row that a Maryland defender has received the honor, with Tahirah Turnage being named Freshman of the Week on Sept. 20, 2022.
First-Year Players Earn Stripes
- Through six games, the Terrapins have gotten strong contributions from its No. 11 freshman class.
- Half of the team's goals scored and all of its assists, have come from freshman players. Lisa McIntyre leads the Terrapins in goals with two, and is joined by Madison Krakower who a one so far this season. Peyton Bernard leads the Terrapins in assists through six games. Lisa McIntyre pairs an assists with her two goals on the season and is joined by Kennedy Bell, whose assist against Towson helped propel the Terps to their first win of the season.
- Kennedy Bell has gone the full 90 minutes in all six games this season. Bell is also joined by fellow freshman Madison Krakower, who have both started all six games for the Terrapins. Peyton Bernard has made five starts on the season, while both McIntyre and Isabel DiPrima having made four starts on the year.
Freshman
Lisa McIntyre currently leads the Terrapins in goals (two) and points (five). She has been a key contributor to the team since being inserted into the strating lineup during Maryland's match against Florida.
Veteran Experience Throughout Squad
- To pair with its young roster, Maryland has multiple players with ample Division I experience to help bring these players along.
- The Terps have eight players with over 1,400 minutes in their careers with four of those players having played over 2,700 minutes.
- UMBC transfer defender Caroline Koutsos has the high water mark having played in 5,332 minutes in her career. Koutsos has played and started in 62 matches in her career. Eden White, another transfer defender, has played in 3,560 minutes in her career and has started 42 games. Catherine DeRosa has spent her entire career in College Park, having started in a total of 34 matches and amassed 3,010 minutes played. Kat Parris is a transfer forward from Radford who has played in over 2700 minutes and has started in 40 games in her career.
- The composition of this squad creates a roster with a unique blend of youthful exuberance and veteran leadership.
UMBC transfer
Caroline Koutsos has a wealth of Division I experience. Koutsos has played and started in 62 matches in her career and brings her veteran experience into a side that is working in a lot of talented youngsters.
Scouting the Patriots
- The Patriots come into this matchup with a record of 0-6-0 to start the season. The Patriots are coming off a pair of losses last week to William & Mary (0-4; Aug. 31) and Villanova (0-3; Sept. 3).
- George Mason has yet to score a goal this season, but have been able to create numerous chance on goal. Sophie Davidson and Rachel Eberly lead the team with four shots this season with the two players having a combined 72.5% shot accuracy in front of goal.
- In front of goal, George Mason is led by freshman goalkeeper Ginny Fronk. Fronk has played in all six matches this season for the Patriots and started five. Fronk has an impressive 37 saves through the first six games of her career.
Terps Get Graduate Patches
- Each year, Maryland recognizes student-athletes that have obtained their undergraduate degree either at the university or at another four-year institution with a "GRADUATE" patch worn on their jersey while they compete for the Terrapins this season.
- Four Maryland Women's Soccer student-athletes will don the patch during this season in honor of their academic accomplishments. Those four players are Catherine DeRosa, Caroline Koutsos, Sofi Vinas, and Eden White.
Sofi Vinas is in her second year as in College Park. Vinas is one of four Maryland Women's Soccer student-athletes who will have a "GRADUATE" patch on her jersey that recognizes her obtaining her undergraduate degree.
Terps in the Pros
- With many teams either in the middle or just starting their seasons, a few of these teams feature Terps on their rosters.
- Recently, Malikae Dayes ('22) earned a move to Aalborg BK in the Danish League. Dayes, who formerly played at St. Etienne in France, made her debut for Aalborg over the weekend against Kolding IF in the 87th minute. Dayes played in 79 games and over 7,000 minutes in her Maryland career as a defender.
- Jasmyne Spencer features heavily for Angel City FC in the NWSL. Spencer picked up the game-winning goal in Angel City's 1-0 win over the Kansas City Current over the weekend. Spencer has her name all over the record books for the Terps, ranking ninth all-time in both career goals (22) and points (58), and 17th in career assists (14).
- Two former Terps feature for St. Etienne in France as MiKayla Dayes and Yewande Balogun featuring for the team. Balogun was also a member of the Nigerian National Team at this year's FIFA Women's World Cup. Balogun helped the Super Falcons reach the Round of 16 and finished unbeaten in the group stage for the first time in the country's history.
- Two former Terps also feature for sides in Europe. Syd Staier plys her for Puskas Akademia in Hungary. Staier played 61 games in the midfield in her four years in College Park. Erin Seppi features for Valadares Gaia FC in Portugal. In Seppi's three years for the Terps, she played in 26 games and made 92 saves.
