COLLEGE PARK, MD -- For the first time this season, the Maryland baseball team hits the road for a conference series as they face Michigan March 29-31. The Terrapins head into the series winners of eight of their last 10 games. The first two games of the series will be streamed on B1G+, with the final game airing on Big Ten Network. All three games will also air on the Maryland Baseball Network.

After winning its first conference series of the season over Michigan State, Maryland (19-6, 2-1 B1G+) had a road midweek game against Georgetown. The Terps offense showed up in a big way, clubbing four home runs in a 11-4 win. Devin Russell got the home run party started with a solo blast in the first, and then an inning later Elijah Lambros hit the second grand slam in a week for the Terps. Kevin Keister and Sam Hojnar went back-to-back in the sixth inning for the Terps as well. Ryan Van Buren got the start and picked up the win, moving his record to 4-0 on the season.

The Terps and the Wolverines have met 35 times, with Michigan holding a 22-13 advantage in the series. The two programs last met in the 2022 Big Ten Tournament, with Michigan taking a 15-8 win. The last Terps win in the series also came in 2022, with the Terps getting a 15-10 back on 5/15/22.

Michigan (9-16) also took its first conference series of the season taking two of three from Penn State on the road. The Wolverines come into the series after taking on Michigan State in an out of conference midweek, dropping the contest by a score of 16-6. Leading the team in batting average is Mitch Voit, who comes into the series with a .330 batting average and is tied for second in the conference with 12 doubles. Stephen Hrustich leads the team in both home runs (8) and RBI (20). Hrustich's eight home runs are tied for the most in the Big Ten so far this season.

Martin Receives Freshman of the Week
  • Freshman Brayden Martin received Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after batting for a .600 average and driving in four runs.
  • The two biggest hits for Martin came in Maryland's wins against Michigan State, with the Bowie, Md. native hitting walk-off singles in both games. Including his walk-off single in the series finale, Martin also drove in the tying run that allowed the game to go to extra innings.
  • This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Terrapins have had a freshman win freshman of the week, with Kyle McCoy receiving the honor twice during the 2023 season.

You Only Need One
  • A team with a penchant for the dramatic, the Terrapins currently hold a 7-1 record this season in one-run games.
  • Thanks to a pair of walk-offs over the weekend, the Terps added to their winning record in one-run games. That marked the second consecutive weekend where both of the team's wins were by one run, with them taking two games over Portland 9-8 on March 16 and 7-6 on March 17.
  • The Terps have already equaled their win total in one-run games from last season, with them holding a record of 7-4 on such occasions in 2023.
Infielder Sam Hojnar (9)Maryland Baseball vs. Michigan State Game 3 at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium in College Park, MD on Sunday, Mar. 24, 2024. Chris Lyons/Maryland Athletics
Sam Hojnar helped key a comeback for the Terps in Sunday's 5-4 win over Michigan State. The win was the Terps seventh one-run win this season and their 10th comeback win.
The Cardiac Terps
  • A moniker bestowed to the team this season for its late game rallies, the Terrapins have won five games in their final at bats.
- Sacrifice fly by Sam Hojnar in the ninth inning on opening day to give the Terps a 5-4 win over Georgia Southern (Feb. 16)
- Three runs in the ninth inning to secure a 7-5 win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi (Feb. 23).
- A three-run top of the ninth to come back on the road against Mount St. Mary's to win 6-4 (Mar. 12).
- RBI double by Jacob Orr in the top of the ninth to even series against Portland with 9-8 win (Mar. 16).

  • In the eighth inning or later, The Terps are outscoring their opponents by a margin of 47-17.
  • The Terps have scored three or more runs in the eighth and ninth innings seven times this season. The most in the eighth inning came in their 14-3 win over Mount St. Mary's on February 20 when they scored six-runs in the eighth inning. Chris Hacopian's grand slam in March 19 9-5 win over James Madison helped Maryland to a five-run bottom of the eighth to break a 4-4 tie. That inning continues a trend for the Terps this season, as they have outscored their opponents 47-17 in the eighth inning or later.
Series Win Streak
  • With its series win over Michigan State this past weekend, Maryland extended its streak to 23 consecutive Big Ten series wins. The Terps have won all eight of their Big Ten series in back-to-back seasons and have not lost a conference set since April 2021.
  • The Terps have not lost a regular season Big Ten series series since April 9-11, 2021, when the Terps dropped 2-of-3 at Nebraska. The Terps last split of a Big Ten series was at Iowa back on April 23-24, which is the lone series in its run that didn't result in a series victory.
  • With the Terps winning taking two from Michigan State over the weekend, they have also now won 16 consecutive weekend series. The last weekend series loss for the Terps came last season during a road series against Ole Miss from Feb. 24-26.
