
Terps Travel to Orlando for Black and Gold Invitational

Maryland at UCF Black and Gold Invitational
COLLEGE PARK, MD - This weekend, the Terps travel to Orlando, FL for the UCF Black and Gold Invitational at the UCF Track & Field/Soccer Complex. Events will begin at 11:00 AM on Friday and 10:00 AM on Saturday.
A peek at the scheduLe
- This will be the second meet of the outdoor season leading up to Big Ten Championships in Eugene, OR from May 16-18 and the NCAA Championships in Eugene, OR from June 11-14.
- Maryland will host two track meets at Kehoe Track & Field this season with the Maryland Invite on March 29 and the Kehoe Twilight Meet on May 2.
The Terps are set to compete in eight meets this year to prep for the Big Ten and NCAA Championships.
River City Relays Recap
- The Terps went 1-2 in the men's hammer throw with Andrew Harmon winning the event at 59.75m and Fin Essley taking second place at 59.02m, fifth all-time in program history.
- Fin Essley won the men's discus throw with marks of 46.42m.
- Tyler Baruch placed third in the men's long jump (6.74m).
- Four Terps finished in the top 10 of the men's 400m with DJ Tarver in fourth (48.23), Isaiah Chapman in fifth (48.48), Aaron Abedin in sixth (48.51), and Sam Ford in seventh (48.54).
- Katerina Talanova had an all-time performance in the women's 800m winning the event at 2:08.81, seventh in program history.
- Eric Albright won the men's 800m with a time of 1:50.61 with Jack Barchet placing second at 1:51.84.
- The foursome of Joshua Goffe, Mykel Morman, Tanner Leach, and Roman Spikes won the men's 4x200, fifth all-time in program history.
- In the men's 100m, Spikes took second (10.83) followed by Leach in third (10.86).
- Emmi Simon placed second in the women's 1500m at 4:40.86. Kaila Spence took third in the same event at 4:44.28.
- Jack Barchet won the men's 1500m with a time of 3:50.18. Luke Coffin followed in third with 3:54.57, Anthony Petrillo in eighth (3:56.42), and Cliff Carty in ninth (3:58.03).
- In the men's 200m, Mykel Morman took fourth (21.70) and Joshua Goffe placed sixth (22.07).
- Isaiah Chapman won the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.47.
- The foursome of Aaron Abedin, Sam Ford, Joshua Goffe, and DJ Tarver placed third in the men's 4x400 with a time of 3 minutes 14.14 seconds.
Last Time at Black AND Gold Invitational
- Victoria Teasley set a new personal record in the women's 100m at 12.06 seconds.
- In the women's 200m, Maya Mosley set a new personal record with a time of 25.33 seconds.
- Kami Joi Hickson placed fifth in the women's 800m at 2:08.19. Emma Pegg followed behind in eleventh with a time of 2:13.13.
- The Terps had three performers in the top 20 in the women's 1500m with Katie Turk placing seventh (4:32.95), Emmi Simon in sixteenth (4:37.08), and Katie Altieri in nineteenth (4:40.00).
- Tolu Akinduro took seventh in the women's triple jump with marks of 12.32m.
- In the women's discus throw, Morgan Graham placed third at 51.87m.
- Sam Ford and Aaron Abedin both set new personal records in the men's 200m at 21.90 and 22.33 seconds, respectively.
- Eric Albright took sixth in the men's 1500m with a time of 3:50.46.
- Rhys Allen placed fifth in the men's shot put with marks of 16.14m. Allen also placed fifth in the men's discus throw with a throw of 50.64m.
- In the men's hammer throw, Andrew Harmon took tenth with marks of 56.12m.

- 21 Terps are among the programs all-time Top 10 on both men's and women's outdoor track teams.
- Eric Albright currently holds the record for the 800 meters (1:48.26).
- The foursome of Joshua Goffe, Mykel Morman, Tanner Leach, and Roman Spikes rank fifth in the men's 4x200 (1:26.05).
- Aaron Abedin and Leach are a part of the eighth all-time best foursome in the 4x200 relay (1:26.58).
- Albright, Justin Depinto, and Max Worley are three of the foursome that hold the fourth all-time record for the 4x800 relay (7:35.91)
- Albright, Worley, and Sam Ford are members of the second all-time best distance medley (9:43.43)
- Andrew Harmon holds the record for the hammer throw (61.68m).
- Rhys Allen ranks sixth in the discus (56.34m).
- Fin Essley ranks fifth in the hammer throw (59.02m).
- Armanie Coleman has the fifth all-time best in the 100m (11.64 seconds) and seventh in the 200m (24.14 seconds).
- Victoria Teasley ranks ninth in the 100m (11.82 seconds).
- Kami Joi Hickson has the sixth all-time best 800m time (2:08.15).
- Rose Coats holds the sixth best time in the 10,000m (36:13.43).
- Tolu Akinduro has the fifth best all-time marks in the triple jump (41-06.00).
- Morgan Graham currently ranks in the discus (174-11, 53.31m).
- Katerina Talanova ranks seventh in the 800m (2:08.81)
- Hickson, Katie Turk, and Emma Pegg are in the foursome that holds the fifth best time in the 4x800 relay (8:50.19).
Olympians In Paris
- A trio of Terps competed this past summer in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Maryland celebrated as Thea LaFond won Gold in the triple jump becoming the first Track Terp to medal in the Olympic games. LaFond posted a mark of 15.02 meters (49-feet, 3.5 inches) - a new Dominica national record in the event. She was the 10th Gold medalist in Maryland history and the first Terp student-athlete to win Gold since Vicky Bullett in 1988.
- With a throw of 77.92 meters, Maryland track and field assistant throws coach Rudy Winkler placed sixth in the hammer throw finals. The mark was his best effort at the Olympic games after he posted marks of 71.89 meters in 2016 (Rio) and 77.08 meters in 2021 (Tokyo). The sixth-place finish was also his best showing at the Olympics improving upon his previous high of seventh in Tokyo.
- Chioma Onyekwere represented Nigeria in the discus after making her second Olympic games.
- Additionally, assistant coach Danielle Siebert served as Women's Head Manager for Team USA – her second straight Olympic Games on the staff.
Maryland Track & Field was represted by four Terps at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
