COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland men's tennis team was defeated by North Carolina in a match decided only by singles matches only. After blanking the Terps in singles, the Tar Heels defaulted their doubles matches to bring the match to a quick end. With today's loss the Terps fall to 10-10, 0-7 in the ACC.

Pierre Rudder (Port of Spain, Trinidad) made his fourth appearance the No. 1 singles seed for the Terps. Rudder faced off against the Tar Heels' Trystan Meniane, and was downed 6-0, 6-3.

Steady as always, sophomore David Reichsfeld (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) fought his way through two close sets against Derek Porter, but was held off, 6-4, 6-4.

Sophomore Troy Demers (Annapolis, Md.) was looking for his first ACC win when he matched up against No. 3 seed Andy Metzler. Demers will have to wait until Sunday against Clemson, as he dropped the match to Metzler, 6-2, 6-2.

Senior co-captains Chris Chiu and Greg Chambers will close out their career as Terps at the Tennis Center at College Park this Sunday. Chiu and Chambers form the core of the young Terrapin team by being leaders on and off the court. Coach Jim Laitta will say goodbye to two of the hardest workers to have come through his program in recent years.

The Terrapins welcome the Clemson Tigers to College Park, Sunday at 11:00 A.M. Clemson is 20-9 on the season and is 4-2 in the ACC. The match will be the final ACC match for both teams.
