Brian Magid came to Maryland from nearby Montgomery Blair High where he had an outstanding career. While at Blair he led the team to the Maryland State Basketball Tournament and the State Championship with a win over DuVal High. He was named the MVP in the state championship tournament, was accorded first team All-State honors and was listed as one of the top 100 prep players in the country. He played in 21 games as a freshman scoring 67 points while hitting 63 percent of the shots he took. He is recognized as one of the finest pure shooters in the league and delights the fans with his 20 to 25 foot jumpers that discourage the use of a zone defense against the Terps. Prior to entering Maryland he played in the AAU National Tournament in New Orleans for the Executive III team of Washington. The Washington team defeated the host New Orleans team before losing to a team from New York. He also played on the U.S. All Star team that played in the Metro Classic. He also played baseball while at Montgomery Blair. He scored eight points in his first collegiate game as a freshman. He is a favorite of the Terp fans who immediately began to chant shoot-shoot as soon as he touches the basketball. He lists Music as his hobby.
