Anthony "Jo Jo" Hunter came to Maryland from Mackin High where he was considered one of the top collegiate prospects in the nation, as a high school All-American. The first team Metro All-Star selection played in the Dayton and Mid West AllStar games. He led all scorers in the District of Columbia with a 28 point average. He started 16 of the 27 games as a freshman and moved into the starting lineup as a regular after Bill Br)ant was injured at Clemson. In the final 12 games of the season as a starter he averaged 16.9 points a game with 27 against Virginia. 21 against Duke both in Cole Field House and in Durham, 24 against Clemson and 20 in the first Virginia game. He can and has played both guard positions. He hit 11 of 19 shots and all five free throws in his career high 27 points against Virginia in Charlottesville. He hit eight of 12 shots against N.C. State in Greensboro, nine of 13 against Virginia in Cole Field House as he also picked up four assists. He made his first four shots as a collegian and went on to hit 50 percent of his shots while scoring 269 points for a 9.9 average. He was second on the team with 38 assists and also had 24 steals. His high in assists was five against Duke in a 85-72 Terp win. He is an excellent ball handler, good quickness, outstanding outside shooter and can go to the basket as well. With 27 games and 16 starts behind him, 10 of the starts against Atlantic Coast Conference competition, he enters his sophomore season with more experience than most players achieve in their first three years of collegiate competition. He has shown that he will join the ranks of John Lucas and Maurice Howard as one of the finest guards to play in the ACC. He was selected as ACC Rookie of the Week as he starred in the Terps' 81-80 win over Wake Forest at Winston-Salem and Duke at Cole Field House.
