WELDING IN THE NEWS

As a senior (2020): Missed season due to injury.

As a junior (2019): Appeared in all 17 games while starting 14 at close defense...caused two turnovers and scooped six ground balls...caused a turnover and snagged a ground ball vs. Albany (3/9)...caused a turnover and picked up a ground ball vs. #1 Penn State (3/31)...tallied two ground balls vs. Johns Hopkins in the Big Ten Semifinals (5/2).  

As a sophomore (2018): Started all 18 games at close defense, picking up seven ground balls and causing seven turnovers ... made first career start at close defense against Navy (2/10) and had a ground ball and a caused turnover ... caused career-high two turnovers at #5 Villanova (3/17) ... helped hold #17 Michigan (3/31) to just five goals ... posted two ground balls and two caused turnovers vs. #7 Rutgers (4/15) ... caused a turnover in NCAA First Round vs. Robert Morris (5/13) ... shut off Jeff Teat in NCAA Quarters vs. Cornell (5/20) and helped hold him without a goal.

As a freshman (2017): Appeared in seven games as reserve close defender for 2017 National Champions ... made collegiate debut at St. Joe's (2/14) ... had a ground ball and caused a turnover at #14 UNC (3/25) ... had a ground ball vs. #19 Michigan (4/1).

Before Maryland: Rated the 27th-best defenseman in the Class of 2016 by Inside Lacrosse … four-year varsity defender under coach Bart Sullivan at Southlake Carroll High School … three-sport athlete that played lacrosse, football and basketball … two-time Adrenaline All-American … named first team all-state three times…played club lacrosse for both Ironhorse Lacrosse and Dallas Select for coaches Chris Surran and Anthony Cummins.

Personal: Full name is Jack William Welding … son of Chad and Lucia Welding … father played football at Iowa State … brother of Cody and Kelsey … sports hero is Barry Sanders … was also recruited by Denver and Marquette … had a 3.6 GPA in high school.

Reason for coming to Maryland: For the team and comradery.
