Field Hockey Earns First Round Bye in NCAA Tournament

College Park, Md.-The 1998 NCAA Field Hockey Tournament pairings have been announced, and Maryland (16-5) has earned a first round bye for the second consecutive year. The Terps will host either Kent State (18-4) or Virginia (16-4) in the second round on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Kent State and Virginia will square off in the first round at noon on Saturday.

Maryland, which won the ACC championship this past weekend, is the second seed in the NCAA Tournament. Old Dominion is the top seed, Connecticut is the third seed and Princeton is the fourth seed.

The complete 12-team tournament pairings are as follows:

FIRST ROUND GAMES
Saturday, Nov. 14
All Games at 12 noon, EST.
Virginia vs. Kent State @ Maryland.
Penn State vs. Massachusetts @ Princeton.
New Hampshire vs. Boston College @ Connecticut.
North Carolina vs. Northeastern @ Old Dominion.

SECOND ROUND GAMES
Sunday, Nov. 15
All games at 2:00 p.m., EST
Virginia-Kent State winner at Maryland.
Penn State-Massachusetts winner at Princeton.
New Hampshire-Boston College winner at Connecticut.
North Carolina-Northeastern winner at Old Dominion.

Friday, Nov. 20
5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. EST.
