The Terps won all three games they played last week, defeating Bucknell 9-0 on Tuesday, seventh-ranked Duke 7-3 on Saturday and No. 18 Boston University 5-4 on Sunday. Sophomore midfielder Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) recorded her third career three-goal performance in the Terps win over the Bison. Freshman midfielder Caroline Walter (Reilingen, Germany) and sophomore forward Keli Smith (Selinsgrove, Pa.) each scored twice against the Blue Devils. Tagliente scored the game-winning goal off of a pass from freshman back Autumn Welsh (Macungie, Pa.) with 5:24 left in the first sudden-death overtime period to lift the Terps over the Terriers.

ON A ROLL
Sophomore midfielder Carla Tagliente has scored eight goals in the last four games and leads the Terps with 14 goals and 33 total points this season. After her two-goal, one assist performance against North Carolina on Oct. 11, Tagliente was named the ACC Player of the Week for the third time in her career. Her three-goal outburst against Bucknell last Tuesday was her third career hat trick. Twice this season, including Sundays game against Boston, Tagliente has scored a goal in sudden-death overtime. Including her two-goal effort against Boston on Sunday, Tagliente has turned in eight multiple-goal games during her career at Maryland, including three this season. She currently leads the team with four game-winning goals this season. In her 38 games since she came to Maryland, Tagliente has scored 33 goals. Last season, she was named the ACC Rookie of the Year and was a third-team All-America selection.

BOUNCING BACK

Her goal against North Carolina on Oct. 11 was the game winner. Rizzo is third on the team with six goals and seventh on the team with 13 points.

MAKING AN IMPACT
After playing in a reserve role the first month of the season, freshman back Autumn Welsh has started the past seven games and has become one of the teams most consistent players. Against North Carolina on Oct. 11, Welsh guarded All-America forward Nancy Pelligreen and held her without a point. Against Duke Saturday, Welsh scored on a penalty stroke. In sudden-death overtime against Boston on Sunday, Welsh assisted on Carla Taglientes game-winning goal.

DAILY DOUBLE
Sophomore forward Keli Smith scored two goals against both Bucknell last Tuesday and Duke on Saturday. Currently, she has five career two-goal games, including three this season. In the past six games, Smith has scored six goals. In the first week of this season, she was named the ACC Player of the Week.

Maryland is the only team in the ACC with three different players having tallied at least 10 assists this season. Senior back Jen Pratt (Greene, N.Y.), who earlier this month became the ACCs all-time assist leader, has 16 assists this season. Sophomore back Molly Kauffman (West Lawn, Pa.) has 15 assists and freshman midfielder Caroline Walter has 10. Pratt and Kauffman each had three assists against Duke on Saturday and Walter assisted on three goals against Bucknell last Tuesday.

COMING INTO HER OWN
In her first year as a consistent starter, senior forward Kasey Heiser (Schafferstown, Pa) is tied for fourth on the team with five goals and sixth on the team with 14 points. In the past three games alone, she has two goals and an assist. Heiser scored a goal and had an assist against Bucknell last Tuesday and added another goal against Boston on Sunday.

ALSO COMING INTO HER OWN
After a redshirt season in 1996 and playing a reserve role in 1997, sophomore back Sarah Rappolt (West Chester, Pa.) has started every game this season and has contributed both offensively and defensively. Against Bucknell last Tuesday, she scored her second goal of the season. Rappolt has been a part of the backfield that has shut out seven opponents this season. She is currently second on the team with two defensive saves.

In the Terps three games last week, nine of their starters were either freshmen or sophomores. Senior back Jen Pratt and senior forward Kasey Heiser are the only upperclassmen in Marylands starting lineup.
