Shipman Pitches, Hits in Softball Win Over Buckeyes

MARIETTA, Ga. - Senior Kelly Shipman struck out seven on the mound and was three-for-five with three runs scored at the plate as she led Maryland past Ohio State, 11-3, in the second round of the Buzz Classic Softball Invitational here at Al Bishop Softball Complex. The Terps defeated Campbell University earlier Friday and enter day two of the three-day tournament with a perfect 2-0 record.

Shipman struck out seven and allowed only five hits in leading the Terps on the mound. The victory was her second consecutive and raised her record to 11-9.

Shipman also enjoyed one of her best games of the season at the plate. She had three hits in five at bats as Maryland's leadoff hitter and scored three runs. She scored the Terps' 11th run in the bottom of the sixth inning which allowed the game to end early and in Maryland's favor.

Maryland continues plays Saturday as it faces Tennessee-Martin at 10:30 and Evansville at 3:30 p.m. Championship pool play begins at 8 a.m. Sunday morning with the championship game scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
