COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- University of Maryland women's golf team finished 13th overall among 31 competing schools in the Unlimited Potential/ Baytree Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC. After shooting a final team round of 317 on Sunday, Sept 10th, Maryland finished the three-round weekend (Sept 8th-Sept 10th) with a combined score of 939 (321, 301, 317).
Freshman, Kara Gropler (Franklin Lakes, NJ) led all Maryland players with a three round total of 231, and finished the tournament tied 22nd among 165 players. Freshman Katie Redeker (Pepper Pike, OH.) also had a stellar performance in which she finished the tournament with a final score of 235, tied 41st overall and 2nd among the Maryland players. Redeker shot a career and team best round of 73 during the second round of play. Maryland was tied in sixth place after two rounds of play.
The Terrapins improved ten spots from last year's 23rd place finish when current sophomore Jennifer Gibson (Havertown, Pa.), led the team with a three round score of 246.
The Baytree Golf Plantation (Par72, Yardage 5884) hosted a total of 165 women golfers from 31 teams. Kent State shot a combined team score of 907 to take the tournament title. Penn State shot 915 altogether to place second overall, while Louisville stayed in third with a score of 919. This tournament was the largest collegiate women's golf tournament in the country.
Next, coach Jason Rodenhaver will lead the Terps to the Radford Invitational, in Radford, Va during September 17- 19.
