STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The University of Maryland women's golf team finished seventh in the team standings Sunday at the Nittany Lion Women's Invitational Tournament held at Penn State's Blue Course.
The Terps were in seventh after Saturday's opening round, and remained there after firing 322 and 318 in Sunday's pair of rounds, finishing at 951 overall. Rain forced the teams to play 36 holes on Sunday after only 18 holes were played Saturday.
For the Terps, sophomore Kate Stepanek fired a final-round 75 to finish tied for 26th at 234 overall. Her 75 was the low round of the tournament by a Maryland player. Freshman Kelly Calkin finished at 235 in a tie for 28th place, with her best round coming with a 76 on Saturday.
Also for Maryland, Jessica Reno and Kelly MacWhinnie each shot 243, tying for 45th place, freshman Katie Trotter was tied for 63rd at 250, while Maggie Trainor tied for 72nd at 255 while playing as an individual.
UC Irvine won the team championship with an 897 total, besting the College of Charleston by five strokes. Individually, Selanee Henderson of UC Irvine was the medalist with rounds of 75-72-73 resulting in a 4-over-par total of 220. She won by one shot over Angie Hill of the College of Charleston.
Maryland next plays in the Lady Pirate Invitational, hosted by East Carolina, on Oct. 11 and 12 in Greenville, N.C.
