POSITION TITLE:               Head Coach - Women's Softball

DEPARTMENT:                   Intercollegiate Athletics

UNIVERSITY: The University of Maryland is one of the more comprehensive and successful athletic programs in the United States with 27 sports and an annual expense budget of approximately $47 million in the context of a distinguished academic University which is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and a beautiful campus located 8 miles north of the nation's capital and 30 miles south of Baltimore.  The women's softball team competes in the state-of-the-art Terrapin Softball Complex, a $3 million, 1,500-seat facility which opened in 2002 and is located adjacent to the Comcast Center. The Terrapin Softball Complex was the site of the 2005 ACC Championships and is tentatively slated to host the 2006 ACC Championships. The women's program is fully scholarshipped and has two full-time assistant coaching positions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Organize and direct all aspects of a highly competitive, Division I Women's Softball program. Specific responsibilities include identifying and recruiting athletically and academically qualified student-athletes; scheduling and conducting practice sessions and regular season contests; developing, implementing, and enforcing team rules; overseeing the administrative process for team travel, budget, student-athlete eligibility and academic progress; participating in fund raising and public relations activities; and promoting the philosophy and objectives of the Intercollegiate Athletics program. Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with all NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations, as well as dedication to the full academic and social development of student-athletes are essential.  Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor's degree required. Must have at least 3-5 years of demonstrated successful coaching experience in softball, preferably at the Division I collegiate level. Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.  Strong communication and organizational skills.

SALARY:       Commensurate with experience.
