POSITION VACANCY                    

 

POSITION TITLE:               Associate Athletic Director for Compliance

 

DEPARTMENT:                   Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA)

 

CATEGORY:                         Full-time, Exempt (100040) 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:          (1) Serves as the department's senior level manager in NCAA Compliance and Certification matters and has a staff of 4 full-time employees. Ensures that all NCAA educational and tracking activities occur in a timely and productive fashion.  (2) Creates new procedures/processes and improves methods to protect institution or institutional representatives from NCAA rules violations.  (3) Leads in developing policies and procedures to follow regarding contact with professional sports agents, etc. (4) Annually develops a minimum of nine rules education seminars for coaches, ICA administrative staff and selected UMCP personnel to ensure all involved are informed in a timely fashion regarding new rules, rules changes, interpretation of rules, etc. (5) Supervises the preparation and mailing of the annual booster guidelines booklet and meets annually with each booster organization to conduct a "mini rules education seminar". (6) Supervises the preparation of NCAA Eligibility Appeals/Waivers, supervises the approval of financial aid awards for student athletes and the National Letter of Intent. (7) Organizes and convenes all meetings of those individuals involved in the compliance process at UMCP.  (8) Serves as the department's lead, hands-on investigator in any NCAA review to assist the Director of Athletics and the UMCP legal staff and prepares accurate written drafts of such material for review prior to submission to the NCAA.  (9) Supervises four full time compliance unit employees and administers annual budget of $415,000.  The University of Maryland is one of the more comprehensive and successful athletic programs in the United States with 27 sports, an annual expense budget of almost $43 million, and a national ranking in the Director's Cup -- in the context of a distinguished academic University and a beautiful campus located 8 miles north of the nation's capital and 30 miles south of Baltimore, Maryland.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required, master's or law degree preferred.  A minimum of five years of progressively responsible managerial experience, preferably in compliance/certification related activities in NCAA, Division I Intercollegiate Athletics or at the NCAA headquarters.  The successful candidate will possess strong written and oral communication skills along with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
