2007 ACC Tournament Bracket
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The second-ranked Maryland field hockey team earned the No. 2 seed in this weekend's ACC Championship, which takes place Nov. 1-4 on the Boston College campus. The Terps earned a first-round bye and play the winner of the #3 Wake Forest-#6 Duke first-round game in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 2. The first two rounds of the tournament can be watched on ACC Select.
"The ACC Championship is always very competitive and all six teams are playing at a high level at this point in the season," said 20th-year head coach Missy Meharg. "It's a new season and we're looking to play some of our best hockey. We are excited to go to Boston and it should be a great tournament."
The Terps play ther semifinal game on Friday at 7 p.m. against either the Deacons or the Blue Devils. The ACC Championship winner will be determined on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. The game will be televised on the ACC's Regional Sports Network (Comcast SportsNet in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area). Maryland finished the regular season with a 17-1 record and 4-1 in the ACC to place second in the conference standings. The team's only loss was to top-seeded and top-ranked North Carolina, who was undefeated in league play with a 5-0 record, in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Terps defeated Duke, 4-2, in early October and Wake Forest, 3-2, their potential semifinal opponent.
The Demon Deacons ended the conference slate with a 3-2 record to nab the third seed, while Boston College, Virginia and Duke each tied for third with a 1-4 mark. BC garnered the No. 4 seed, with Virginia claiming the fifth seed. The first round takes place on Thursday, Nov. 1 with the Eagles and Cavaliers starting things off at 1 p.m. WFU and Duke play at 4 p.m.
Four of the five ACC teams are ranked in the STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll. After the Tar Heels and the Terps, Wake is rated No. 3, Duke No. 11 and BC is No. 12. The next poll will be released on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The tournament is being held at Boston College for the first time ever, as the Eagles entered the league two years ago.
Meharg's Terps will be looking to capture their seventh ACC title, last winning it in 2005 in College Park.
