COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After another solid weekend, Maryland field hockey freshman Katie O'Donnell was selected the National Rookie of the Week by www.womensfieldhockey.com, the web publication announced on Tuesday. The Terps were also ranked No. 1 by the same magazine, but slipped to No. 2 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll this week.

Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa.) has registered at least two points in Maryland's six games this weekend, tallying a goal and four assists in the sweep of Ohio State (4-1) and Northeastern (6-0) in the Terrapin Invitational this past weekend. She earns the national honor for the second-straight week.

O'Donnell leads the ACC and the team with eight goals, nine assists and 25 points. A member of the U.S. National Team, she's also tied for the team lead with two game-winning goals. On Sept. 3, she was voted the ACC Player of the Week.

Maryland is 6-0 for the sixth-straight year and is ranked second this week in the NFHCA National Top 20 after spending the first few weeks of the season, including the preseason, at No. 1. The two-time NCAA Champions were edged by North Carolina (6-0) for the top spot in the polls. The Terps earned 24 first-place votes and 911 total points. UNC had 23 first-place tallies, but 913 points.

Wake Forest (2-2) and Duke (3-3) remained in the top 10, rated No. 5 and No. 10, respectively. Boston College (5-1) is 11th, while Virginia (3-2) is 17th this week.

Maryland is No. 1 in the www.womenesfieldhockey.com top 20 this week for the second week in a row.

The Terps travel this weekend to open the ACC schedule at Boston College on Saturday, Sept. 15. Slated for a 1 p.m. start, the game can be watched on ACC Select (www.accselect.com) with a paid subscription. BC is also site of the 2007 ACC Field Hockey Championship which take place Nov. 1-4.
