COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After another outstanding week, Maryland field hockey freshman Katie O'Donnell was selected ACC Player of the Week, the league announced today. The Terps host Ivy League Champion Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
A forward/midfielder Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa.) led the second-ranked Terrapins to two top-10 victories last week, piling up seven points in the two games. Against then-No. 9 American on Sept. 19, she scored a goal and tallied one assist as Maryland cruised to a 4-0 win. In the team's 3-2 win vs. fifth-ranked Wake Forest later in the week, she added two goals, including one which would prove to be the game winner.
With 11 goals on the season, O'Donnell leads the ACC and is tied for tops in the nation. She is also currently first in points in the conference with 33 and is second with 11 assists in nine games. O'Donnell has logged at least a point in every game this season. It is the second time she receives the honor.
Maryland hosts regional foe Princeton this Wednesday at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The Terps are 9-0 heading into the game, having also won their last 14 games in a row, dating back to the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament. Maryland leads the all-time series vs. the Tigers, 11-4-1, dating back to 1981. The Terps have won the last eight meetings.
Princeton comes into the game with a 4-2 record, winning their last four games. Three of those wins have come against Ivy League opponents. The Tigers dropped its first two games of the season to American (3-2) and Penn State (5-1), both of which are ranking in the top 10 in the national polls.
Tina Bortz leads the team with four goals and nine points. The team has scored 17 goals, but has allowed just nine this season. Goalkeeper Cynthia Wray has a 1.64 goals against average.
