COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
University of Maryland director of athletics Deborah A. Yow announced today the promotion of James Greenwell to Senior Associate Athletics Director.
Greenwell has directed the Operations & Facilities office since August 2005 and has led the department to outstanding levels of service and efficiency. He has spearheaded the campus' efforts to ensure the safety of all athletic venues and patrons subsequent to 9/11, and coordinated efforts with state, regional and university officials on emergency procedures for all department facilities.
In addition, he has been instrumental in implementing the department's customer-assistance initiatives at all athletic events. Greenwell has also worked to promote Comcast Center as a venue for non-athletic events, and his office has successfully managed numerous ACC and NCAA championship events since his arrival.
"James has shown a tremendous commitment to excellence and leadership in his department," said Yow. "The University is fortunate to have him as part of our staff and both his professionalism and emphasis on customer service have made a real impact on his office and the department as a whole. We're happy to give him this well-deserved promotion."
The former assistant athletics director for facilities & operations at the University of Central Florida, Greenwell brought 15 years of facilities experience with him to Maryland. Greenwell's department manages all athletic facilities and events for the Terrapins and he also acts as the point of contact for emergency management and assists with senior associate A.D. and CFO Larry Leckonby on construction projects.
A former member of the military, Greenwell served in the U.S. Army as an infantry rifleman from 1986 to 1990. Greenwell and his wife Casey reside in Laurel with their two children, Dane and Ayden.
