POSITION VACANCY

POSITION TITLE: Academic Counselor

DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics

CATEGORY: Full-time, Exempt

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Academic Counselor for Academic Support and Career Development Unit (ASCDU) is responsible for assisting student-athletes in meeting their academic objectives. This individual will serve as the primary contact and academic counselor for academic plans and progress of student-athletes for assigned varsity teams. Specific responsibilities include: participating in the recruitment, orientation, pre-registration, and enrollment of student-athletes; acting as a liaison to faculty, administrators, and coaches regarding student-athlete academic matters; tracking and monitoring academic progress for each student-athlete to ensure satisfactory progress; coordinating the meetings and activities of the Student Athlete Advisory Council; coordinating and facilitating career development programs as a part of the overall C.H.A.M.P.S. / Life Skills program; teach a section of UNIV 100 - Introduction to the University course; and performing other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree required, preferably in Counseling, Student Personnel, Education, or related field. At least 2-3 years of experience in post-secondary educational institutions, preferably in athletic academic services. Must have a working knowledge of NCAA academic rules and procedures. Strong oral and written communication skills are needed. Must be computer literate.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
