University of Maryland women's golfer Jessica Hollandsworth is in first place after the first day of the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Oak Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C., shooting 7 under par with rounds of 69 and 68 to take a six-stroke lead heading into Tuesday's final round.
Thanks to Hollandsworth's dominant performance, the Terrapins are in second place in the team standings, only three strokes behind East Tennessee State. Maryland is 10 over par as a team, finishing at 586 (296-290).
Kerri Connolly is in 12th place for Maryland, shooting a 1-under-par 71 in the second round after shooting 76 in the opening 18 holes. Christine Shimel shot 74 and 76 to finish the day 6 over par and Hayley Brown is two shots behind her at 8 over par (77-75). Lauren Varnas is 12 over par, carding a 78 in both rounds.
Hollandsworth and the Terps will look to close the fall season with team and individual championships when play resumes Tuesday morning for the final 18 holes.
