On January 25, the University of Maryland Gymnastics team and its coaches gathered at the University of Maryland Medical Center located in Baltimore where they read and performed for children.
After visiting teammate Allie Dama, who was hospitalized at the Medical Center for over a month, the team agreed it would be a great idea to return and visit the Center's Hospital for Children. Upon the gymnasts' arrival, the children gathered to hear the biographies of the girls and information about their sport. Shortly after, the kids were in awe as the athletes began tumbling across the hospital floors.
The second half of the visit was filled with conversation between the Terps and the children, as well as a read-aloud. Brandi George confirmed the importance of this day for both the Terps and the children's personal growth, “It is very important to give back to the community and encourage and support these children to achieve their dreams”.
The Terps brightened the children's day as the children were able to set aside their daily battles and enjoy the team's performance and companionship. As stated by junior Margaux Meeks, “It was hard to see the children in the hospital, I know that they had a wonderful time seeing us perform and talking to us.” The tumblers look forward to returning having received a special invitation to future events from the coordinator.
