The University of Maryland women's golf team begins the Fall 2009 season Sunday at the Cougar Classic, hosted by the College of Charleston.
The tournament is being held at Yeamans Hall Golf Club in Hanahan, S.C. Play begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Sunday with each of the 17 participating schools playing 36 continuous holes. The tournament concludes Sunday with the final 18 holes.
Maryland returns all but one golfer from last year's squad, including leading scorer Jessica Hollandsworth, who finished with a scoring average of 74.4 as a freshman last year, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.
Hollandsworth was the Terrapins' top finisher in last year's Cougar Classic, finishing in a tie for 28th place at 5 over par. Also returning for Maryland are Kerri Connolly, Alexis Holmes, Hilary Lawson and Lauren Varnas.
Other schools participating in the Cougar Classic include: College of Charleston, Florida State, Furman, Georgia, Miami, Mississippi, Mississippi State, North Carolina, NC State, Richmond, South Florida, Tennessee, Texas, UNC Greensboro, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.
