Women's Golf in Ninth after First Two Rounds at Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. - The University of Maryland women's golf team is in ninth place after the first day of competition at the Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston at Yeamans Hall Golf Club.

The Terrapins shot a 16-over-par 592 through the first two rounds. The final round is scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Sophomore Jessica Hollandsworth leads all Maryland players thus far, finishing with a 1-under-par 143 on the day, good enough for a tie for 12th place. Hollandsworth opened with a 73 in the first round and carded a 2-under-par 70 in the second.

Christine Shimel finished the day with a 4-over-par 148 (75-73). Kerri Connolly finished with a 151 and Carly Hunt shot 154 to round out the counted scores for the Terps. Lauren Varnas shot 156.

Georgia owns a big lead in the team standings heading into Monday's final round, finishing 13 under par for the day. Florida State and Furman are both one under and tied for second place.

Florida State's Lacey Agnew owns the individual lead at eight under par.
