BLACKSBURG, Va. - Junior Kiani Profit broke a 25-year old school record and earned an NCAA automatic-qualifying mark with her performance in the women's pentathlon Thursday on the opening day of the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The three-day meet is being hosted by Virginia Tech.
Profit finished with 4,125 points in the five-event competition. She was second only to three-time ACC champion Liane Weber of Clemson, who finished with a meet-record 4,262 points.
The Terrapin junior earned an automatic-qualifying mark to the NCAA Indoor Nationals in March, with her total surpassing the auto standard of 4,075 points.
Profit secured second place overall when she won the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:14.74 in the day's final event. Profit had a strong day on the track, placing second in the 60-meter hurdles with a mark of 8.50.
The star junior also placed second in the long jump with a mark of 18-10.75. Profit placed fifth in the high jump at 5-05.75 and sixth in the shot put at 37-2.25, which was her longest mark this season.
