BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Maryland men's and women's track and field programs concluded the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships Saturday at Virginia Tech's Rector Field House with the men's team finishing in eleventh place and the women's team finishing in twelfth place.
Senior Jeremy Samuels and freshman Moriah Young continued to score points for the Terrapins on Saturday, with both athletes posting season-best marks in their respective events.
Men
After running a 48.84 in the 400-meter preliminaries on Friday, Samuels ran a 48.71 in Saturday's finals to place eighth overall. That was the fastest time this season for the Terrapins. Samuels also anchored Maryland's 4x400-meter relay team. Along with Shawn David, John Davenport and Tommy Friscia, Maryland placed ninth in the event with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:17.81.
Earlier in the day, Friscia placed seventh in the 800-meter finals with a time of 1:53.18. He also ran a sub-50 split in the 4x400-meter relay. Friscia will likely be considered for the relay team at the IC4A meet.
Maryland had several athletes represented in distance events. In the finals of the men's mile on Saturday, Greg Jubb placed tenth overall with a time of 4:29.59. In the 3,000, Greg Kelsey finished twenty-sixth with a time of 8:36.27. Kyle Gaffney, Mike Cator and Ben Diestel finished thirtieth, thirty-eighth and thirty-ninth, respectively.
Dwight Barbiasz did not compete in the high jump but will likely be available for the NCAA Championships.
Women
Several athletes had strong outings on Saturday, but the highlight of the day was Young's performance in the shot put. After placing seventh in the weight throw on Friday, Young finished sixth in the shot put on Saturday with a mark of 46-3.25. It was the longest throw this year for any Maryland athlete and the eighth best mark in Maryland history.
Maryland looked very strong in the 4x400-meter relay, placing third overall with a time of 3:41.92. The foursome of Kiani Profit, Melony McKay, Arielle Statham and DeAnna Brown posted the best time this season for the Terrapins and the third best time in Maryland history.
Statham, a freshman, also placed seventeenth in the triple jump. Senior Ashley Carbray finished twenty-first.

Maryland Notes
In the men's 200, Dareem David finished sixteenth, Floyd Hawkes finished seventeenth and John Davenport finished eighteenth. Davenport also finished eighteenth in the long jump, followed by Ray in nineteenth. Seniors Mike Cator and Ben Diestel finished thirty-eighth and thirty-ninth in the 3,000, respectively. Cator ran a season-best time of 4:16.26. Kevin Gahr finished twenty-fourth in the 5,000. Max Bruno finished thirtieth in the 800. Kyle Gaffney finished thirtieth in the 3,000.
In the women's 5,000 meters, Ashley Campbell and Angeli Sivaraman finished fifteenth and twentieth, respectively. In the 60-meter dash, sophomore DeAnna Brown finished fifteenth, followed by Alexis Booker in twentieth and Heidi Paul in twenty-second. Booker and Paul also finished twenty-seventh and thirtieth in the 200, as Paul ran in 25.73, her fastest time this season. In the 400, senior Melony McKay ran her best time of the season. She finished in eighteenth with a time of 56.82, followed by Natalie Goodman in twenty-fourth. Ashley Cromartie finished twentieth in the 3,000.
