BEALLSVILLE, Md. -
The Maryland women's golf team earned their second consecutive second place finish after carding a 616 (308-308) at the Hoya Women's Invitational this week. All five Terrapins competing in the tournament also earned top-20 finishes.
The Terps were the only team to have all five competitors finish in the top-20.
Sophomore Jessica Hollandsworth led the Terps with her own second place finish after three-over-par 147 through two rounds of competition. Hollandsworth held tight to her No. 2 position after the first day with a 73 and finished up with a 74.The sophomore led all players in par 4 scoring.
Freshman Christine Shimel earned her second straight top-10 finish, tying for seventh with a 12-over-par 156. The Kennett Square, Pa., native had finished second at the Pinehurst Challenge with a two-under-par 214. Shimel carded a 77 and 79 during the first and second rounds of play, respectively. Her round low so far this season is a 68 which she earned during the Pinehurst Challenge.
Graduate student Carly Hunt also tied for seventh place. Hunt improved her game on the second day by six strokes for a 156 (81-76). Hunt averaged a 3.00 on the par three holes and also excelled on par fives, averaging a 5.25 at those holes.
Junior Kerri Connolly and freshman Hayley Brown each tied for 17th. Connolly carded a six-over-par 80 in each round while Brown registered a 78 on the first day and an 82 on the second.
Maryland led all teams in par three scoring and was second in par four and five scoring. They registered 12 birdies during the tournament, the second most amongst all 17 teams.
The Terrapins return to the green on April 5 through April 6 for the Canes and Cardinal Classic in Miami Lakes, Fla.
