Maryland student-athletes produced some top results at the first day of the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championships at Clemson University, including indoor All-American Kiani Profit in the heptathlon.
Profit currently sits second overall in heptathlon scoring behind indoor pentathlon champion Liane Weber. Profit jumped a season-best 5-08 in the high jump and ran the 200 in a season-best 24.39. Profit tallied 3,405 points after four events, earning sixth in the shot put and second in the 100-meter hurdles at 13.91, the third-fastest time in Maryland history. Weber holds a slim lead with 3,498 points total. The final three events of the heptathlon, the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run, take place on Friday.
Maryland received an impressive performance from junior Kristen Batts in the discus. Batts added almost three inches to her personal-best mark with a throw of 158-06, granting her third place and moving her into third on Maryland's all-time list.
Alex Lundy was the only Terrapin who competed on the men's side. The junior took sixth in the 10,000 with a time of 29:56.67, fifth-best in Maryland history and almost two minutes faster than his previous best.
Maryland Notes:
Profit is now sixth all-time in the high jump and seventh all-time in the 200. Profit earned sixth place in the shot put with a mark of 35-03.25.
Jessie Echard finished eleventh in the discus with a season-best mark of 126-08. Tara Miluszewski and Alex Georgiou finished fourteenth and sixteenth in the javelin with respective marks of 121-05 and 106-06. Ashley Campbell finished fifteenth in the 10,000 with a time of 37:22.22.
