COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's golf team is coming off of their second tournament win of the season. The Terps took the crown at the Canes and Cardinal Classic in Miami Lakes, Fla., 10 days ago and now prepare for the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship in Greensboro, N.C., Friday through Sunday, April 16-18.

The tournament takes place at the Sedgefield Country Club, a par-71, 6,355 yard course. Maryland is in the first group which starts at 8:30 a.m. on Friday. They are joined by Miami and Boston College. The second wave of NC State, Virginia and Florida State will start at 9:20 a.m. and the final group will include Wake Forest, North Carolina and Duke with a scheduled tee time start of 10:10 a.m.

Sophomore Jessica Hollandsworth and freshman Christine Shimel lead the Terrapins. Hollandsworth finished in the top10 last year at the ACC tournament with a 223. She has one tournament victory under her belt, having won the Palmetto Intercollegiate in the fall and has earned five top-10 finishes and two top-25 finishes on top of that. Hollandsworth averages a 74.29 with a low-round 68 which she earned in the second round of the Palmetto.

Shimel has had two second place finishes and has led the Terps three times including at the recent Canes and Cardinal Classic. She is just behind teammate Hollandsworth with a stroke average of 74.44. Her best performance through 54 holes was at the Pinehurst Challenge where she carded a two-under-par 214 which included a season low-round 68 during the second round. Shimel came in second of 93 competitors.

Also in the lineup for Maryland is junior Kerri Connolly. Her best finish was at the Spider Fall Invitational where she led her team to first place finish and claimed the third spot herself. Connolly's low round is 71 and she is averaging 76.68 strokes per round. The only other upperclassman to join Connolly is senior Carly Hunt. Hunt tied for seventh with Shimel at the Hoya Invitational for her best finish so far during the season. In 14 rounds, Hunt has averaged a 76.68.

Freshman Hayley Brown rounds out the competing field for the Terps. She finished 16th at the Canes and Cardinal tournament for her third top-20 finish. Brown's low round of 72 came in the fall at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup in Simpsonville, Ky. She has averaged a 78.32 through 22 rounds this season.

Wake Forest won the championship last season and look to reclaim the crown.
