UNIVERSITY: The University of Maryland is among the most comprehensive and successful athletic programs in the United States with 27 sports and an annual expense budget of approximately $55 million. The University is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and is located on a beautiful campus located eight miles north of the nation's capital and near Columbia, Maryland, which was recently listed as the #2 “Best Place to Live” by Money Magazine. The Athletic Program has won 20 national championships over the last 15 years and is a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Currently, 78 of the University's academic programs are ranked in their respective Top 25 nationally.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Director of Athletics for Academic Support & Career Development (ASCDU) reports to the Associate AD, ASCDU. This individual is responsible for directing academic support services for Football student-athletes, enabling them to maintain athletic eligibility, to make reasonable progress towards graduation, and to graduate from the University within a 4-5 year time frame. Under this individual's leadership, the ASCDU staff within Gossett team house will manage successfully the following tasks: (1) coordinate the academic and developmental plans for Football student-athletes; (2) conduct meetings with coaches to review academic progress and ensure understanding of NCAA rules related to academic progress; (3) develop, coordinate, and provide exceptional tutorial assistance to football student-athletes; (4) plan and implement a comprehensive career program; and (5) participate actively and routinely in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes during their official and unofficial visits to campus.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. At least 3-5 years of successful, full-time professional experience in higher education, preferably in athletic academic services of a Division I university or in a Division I Conference setting. Must have a comprehensive working knowledge of NCAA academic rules and procedures. Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Proven administrative/supervisory experience is preferred.
