Kiene's four RBI lead the Black team

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Black team's Tim Kiene went 2-for-5 and drove in four runs, and three pitchers combined to hold the Red team to four hits and one run in a 6-1 win in game one of the Red & Black World Series Friday night.
Starting pitcher David Carroll pitched four innings of one-hit baseball and had six strike outs. He was relieved by Jeff Crosswhite who pitched three and two thirds innings and picked up the win. Jimmy Reed earned the save.
The Black team's bats led the way for them. Center fielder Charlie White went 3-for-4 and senior Alfredo Rodriguez went 2-for-3, and both scored two runs. Reed pitched an inning and a third in relief, earning the save. He entered the game with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth and got Michael Montville to ground out to end the inning and get out of the jam.
The Red team was led by sophomore Michael Montville who went 2-for-4, and senior Tomo Delp who went 1-for-4 with the team's only RBI. Sophomore Brady Kirkpatrick lasted four and two thirds innings and gave up two runs, only one of which was earned in the loss. Robert Galligan pitched three and one third innings in relief giving up two runs, neither of which was earned.
Due to poor weather forecasted for Saturday, the Red & Black World Series will conclude on Sunday with a double header starting at 10 a.m. at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.
