COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Sean Mosley scored 20 points Wednesday
night as six Maryland players finished in double figures in a 106-52
rout of Longwood.
The point total was a season best for the Terrapins (16-8), who
also racked up their second win of more than 50 points.
The win was Maryland coach Gary Williams' 665th career victory,
pushing him past the legendary John Wooden.
"We are really happy for him, it's quite an accomplishment for
him," said Mosley. "When he came into the locker room, we celebrated a
little. Coach Williams is a good guy and it was nice to have been able
to help him win it."
The Terrapins were playing a rare mid-season nonconference game and
Longwood (8-19) was obviously outmanned from the start as Maryland
jumped to an 11-0 lead and never trailed.
The Terrapins outrebounded the Lancers 55-28, shot 54.2 percent
from the field (39 of 72) and made a season-high 10 three-pointers. The
Terps were also unselfish with the ball, passing off for 28 assists, 18
in the second half.
"The thing I liked most about tonight ... was we had some really
unselfish plays in the second half when we'd gotten a little sloppy,"
said coach Williams. "I thought our guys really looked for each other."
One of just 14 independent programs in Division I, the Lancers shot
just 29.2 percent (19 of 65) and were outrebounded by Maryland, 55-28.
They are now 0-14 on the road this season.
Terrell Stoglin added 15 points for the Terrapins, while Dino
Gregory had 14, Haukur Palsson 13, Pe'Shon Howard 11 and Adrian Bowie
10. Gregory also added a career-high 11 rebounds.
Eleven different players scored for Maryland, though Jordan
Williams failed to pick up his 21st double-double of the season with
just nine points with his 11 rebounds.
"Everything fell in place tonight," said Gregory. "I'd rather be
playing a game than practicing and this gave some of those guys who
don't get to play as much, a chance to play in game situations."
Maryland's next two games are on the road against Boston College
and Virginia Tech.
"We came in hard tonight preparing for Boston College," said
Mosley. "We have to maintain the things we did tonight. It was an
overall good win for us and we need to build off it.
Aaron Mitchell led the Lancers with 15 points and Antwan Carter
added 13.
After missing their first shot, the Terrapins scored the game's
first 11 points with Gregory scoring seven.
"We got off to a good start and stayed tough," said Gary Williams.
Palsson led the Terrapins with 10 points in the first half - making
4 of 4 from the field - as they led 50-22. Gregory had 10 points and
eight rebounds in the half.
