COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Head coach Laura Watten of the Maryland softball team notched career win 500 Wednesday night with the Terrapins' 7-1 win over Fordham in game one of a midweek doubleheader.

After the Terps (15-9) took two from the Rams, Watten is now 501-342 (.594) all-time in her 14-year career as a head coach. In her six years in College Park, she is 179-135 (.570).

In 2010, she led the Terrapins to a 34-24 mark and their first NCAA Regionals appearance in over 10 years. 14th-seeded Oklahoma, Fordham and Syracuse all came to College Park to compete in the first rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

A graduate of Texas-Arlington, Watten got her head coaching start at Bethune-Cookman in 1998. In her seven years in Daytona Beach, Fla. she led the Wildcats to a 322-207 (.607) record, five NCAA Regionals appearances and the 2005 NCAA Super Regionals.

She was named MEAC Coach of the Year four times (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005) and in 2005 was also named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Southeast Region Coach of the Year.

The Terrapins are currently on a six-game win streak, after four straight wins in the USF Under Armour Showcase over the weekend in Clearwater, Fla., and the two wins over Fordham Wednesday. For a full recap of Wednesday's games, please click here.
