GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Sophomore Lexi Carroll of the Maryland softball team was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Week the league announced Tuesday for her performance in the Terps' 2-0 weekend at Virginia. She was honored with the weekly award for the first time in her career.
Carroll hit four home runs and brought in eight RBI in her eight at-bats last weekend. She helped the Terrapins (22-9, 2-0 ACC) pummel the Cavs 13-0 in game one. She hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth, then hit a three-run homer in the top of the fifth.
In game two, she got the Terrapin offense started with a lead off solo home run to start the second inning. She closed the scoring in the top of the seventh with a two-run homer. She started at third base in both games and notched four assists on the day.
The Terps are currently on a 13-game win streak, dating back to March 11. In that streak, Carroll has led Maryland at the plate with a .516 batting average, five home runs and has knocked in 15 RBI. She's helped the Terps outscore opponents 77-11.
The Terrapins will play host to No. 25/24 Georgia Tech (28-5, 3-0 ACC) this weekend in College Park. The Terps and the Yellow Jackets will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday and a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday. Georgia Tech and Maryland are currently ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the ACC, respectively.
