POSITION VACANCY

 

POSITION TITLE:                Director, Academic Enrichment Program

 

DEPARTMENT:                    Intercollegiate Athletics

UNIVERSITY: The University of Maryland is among the most comprehensive and successful athletic programs in the United States with 27 sports and an annual expense budget of approximately $55 million. The University is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and is located on a beautiful campus located eight miles north of the nation's capital and near Columbia, Maryland, which was recently listed as  the  #2 “Best Place to Live” by Money Magazine. The Athletic Program has won 21 national championships over the last 16 years and is a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Currently, 78 of the University's academic programs are in their respective Top 25 nationally.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:              The AEP Director will manage a caseload of at-risk students as assigned, and will be responsible for developing an individualized learning plan for each student.  Specific duties include: meeting with students on a regular basis to maintain and asses their learning plan, working individually with students on study skills development, managing the day-to-day operations of the learning services provided to AEP students, teaching a section of UNIV 104: Reading and Writing at the College Level, working collaboratively with the ASCDU Program Coordinator and all Academic Counselors to provide a cohesive support structure for the AEP students, holding regular training sessions for AEP tutors and mentors, conducting ability and motivation assessments on incoming students and facilitating further neuro-psychological and/or psycho-educational assessments if needed, acting as a liason between ASCDU and the Disability Support Services office on campus, and other duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree strongly preferred, preferably in Counseling, Student Personnel, Education or related field.  Must have at least 2 years of experience working with secondary or post-secondary students.  The ideal candidate will have training or experience in teaching learning strategies and other study skill instructional techniques. Working knowledge of NCAA academic rules and regulations preferred.  This individual must possess strong communication skills to develop and maintain effective interaction with a diverse population.  Proficiency with PC applications and ability to maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information required.

 

SALARY:       Commensurate with experience.
