GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Freshman Juliet Vongphoumy has been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Golf Team, the league announced Monday.
Vongphoumy is the eighth Maryland women's golfer to earn the honor in the program's 13-year history and is the third Terrapin freshman to be voted to the team (Jessica Hollandsworth (2009), Christine Shimel (2010)). It is the seventh consecutive season Maryland has had a representative voted to the team by the league's nine head coaches.
A native of Providence, R.I., Vongphoumy is ranked fifth in the conference in scoring average (73.72), which leads all freshmen, and placed in the top 20 in 9 of 10 tournaments this year including five top-10 finishes.
Vongphoumy's best finish came at the UNCG/Starmount Classic in October. She placed second with a 5-over 221 to lead the Terps to their first tournament title of the year.
At the Lady Pirate Invitational the following weekend, Vongphoumy carded a 3-under 213, her lowest 54-hole round of the year, to tie for second as the Terrapins won back-to-back tournaments for the first time since March 21, 2006.
Duke's Lindy Duncan was voted ACC Player of the Year and NC State's Augusta James earned ACC Freshman of the Year honors. Click here to view the conference's full release.
