Maryland to Take on Michigan in the Big House

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland travels to Michigan Stadium to take on the Wolverines for the first time in 24 years Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:42 p.m. in Ann Arbor. Maryland and Michigan have met three previous times, but have not played one another since 1990. The Wolverines have won the three previous matchups, all in Ann Arbor.

Maryland has won six of its last seven road contests dating back to last season and is 4-1 away from College Park this season. The Terps four road wins are tied with Ohio State for the most in the Big Ten and are the most for a Maryland team since 2002.

Maryland's nine opponents this season have combined for a record of 43-31 (.581). Based on winning percentage, it is the fourth most difficult schedule in the Big Ten and the 27th most difficult schedule nationally.

In five road games, Maryland has held its opponents to 182.4 yards passing per game. It is the lowest average for a Maryland defense since 2004 when the Terps held its opponents to 131.0 yards per game in five road contests.

Breakin' Down Brown

Quarterback C.J. Brown tossed for 246 yards, his second-highest total of the season, and two touchdowns in the Terps matchup with Michigan State. The two touchdown passes by the sixth-year senior moved Brown into fourth on Maryland's all-time list passing Chris Turner (2007-09). In addition, Brown is now responsible for 53 career touchdowns, which is tied for first in school history with Scott Milanovich (1992-95). Brown ranks seventh in the Big Ten averaging 209.8 yards of total offense per game and ranks eighth in the conference in passing averaging 172.3 yards per game.

  • Brown increased his career passing total to 4,807 yards against the Spartans and is only the eighth quarterback in school history to eclipse the 4,500-yard plateau. He currently ranks seventh in school history. In addition, with 1,537 career rushing yards, Brown is one of 12 active FBS players to pass for 4,000 or more yards and rush for 1,000 or more yards in a career.
  • Brown ranks fifth in school history in completions with 395. Milanovich holds the program record with 650.
  • Brown has eight career 100-yard rushing performances. It is the most all-time for a Terrapin quarterback and is tied with former Maryland running back Da'Rel Scott (2007-2010) for the fourth-highest total in program history. In addition, Brown's total is tied for fourth nationally among active FBS quarterbacks.
  • Brown has accounted for 6,344 yards of total offense in his career. He ranks third on Maryland's all-time list and 22nd nationally among active FBS players.

On The Offense

ALL-PURPOSE DIGGS

Wide receiver Stefon Diggs leads the team in receptions (52) and receiving yards (654). Diggs hit season highs in catches (9) and receiving yards (130) against Iowa (10/18). Diggs ranks second among active FBS career leaders in all-purpose yards per game averaging 147.52 yards.

  • Diggs has eight career 100-yard receiving games, which ranks second in school history. Jermaine Lewis (1992-95) holds the record with 15.
  • His 3,983 career all-purpose yards is the 19th-highest active total nationally.
  • He is tied for third in Maryland history with Darrius Heyward-Bey (2006-08) with 2,036 career receiving yards.
  • Diggs is averaging 5.8 receptions per game and 72.7 receiving yards per game, which ranks second and fifth in the Big Ten, respectively.

ROAD WARRIORS

  • Maryland has won four road contests this season, tied for the most in the Big Ten and the highest total for a Terrapin team since 2002.
  • The Terps are one of 17 teams in FBS with four or more road wins this season.
  • At USF and at Penn State, Maryland overcame fourth quarter deficits of three and nine points, respectively, to earn the victory.

VEII QUICK TO ADAPT

Jacquille Veii has started to emerge at receiver after converting from running back during the preseason.

  • Veii totaled career bests in catches (4) and receiving yards (78) against Ohio State (10/4).
  • He notched his first career receiving TD against WVU (9/13) and his first career rushing touchdown at Syracuse (9/20).
  • Veii's 23-yard touchdown run against Iowa (10/18) is the second of his career.

On The Defense/Special Teams

LOCK IT DOWN

  • Sophomore defensive back William Likely is tied for the lead in the Big Ten in interceptions (5) and passes defensed (12).
  • His five interceptions are the most for a Maryland player since Domonique Foxworth had five in 2002.
  • Likely has returned two of his interceptions for touchdowns, which is tied for the highest total in the nation. He is also tied with six other players for the most in Maryland history, and is tied for the second-highest single-season total in Big Ten history.
  • His 12 passes defensed are the most for a Maryland player since Isaiah Gardner had 12 in 2007.

IT'S GOOD

Junior kicker Brad Craddock, a Lou Groza semifinalist, has made 45 career field goals and has scored 229 career points..

  • Craddock's 45 career field goals rank fourth on Maryland's all-time list.
  • His 229 career points are fifth all-time at Maryland and the fourth most for a kicker.
  • Craddock is one of two kickers nationally who are perfect on the season (14 of 14).
  • The junior has converted 20 straight field goal attempts. That mark is a program record.
  • In addition, his 20 consecutive made field goals is the third-longest streak in Big Ten history. Mike Nugent (Ohio State) holds the record with 24 straight from 2001 through 2002.

GET TO THE QUARTERBACK

Senior Andre Monroe is Maryland's active career leader in sacks. The product of Upper Marlboro, Md., has 23 career sacks including a team-high 8.5 this season.

  • Monroe's 23 sacks rank second in school history. Monroe is one shy of the school record held by Mike Corvino (1979-1982).
  • His 35.5 career tackles for loss are tied for fifth all-time with Eric Ogbogu (1994-97).
  • With 9.5 sacks in 2013, Monroe posted the best single-season sack total in school history since Kris Jenkins posted 10.0 sacks in 2000.
