Terps Take Top Seed in Big Ten Tournament

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The second-ranked Maryland field hockey team will be the top seed in its first Big Ten Tournament, which begins Thursday at Michigan's Phyllis Ocker Field in Ann Arbor. The Terrapins (16-2, 7-1 B1G) will take on eighth-seeded Ohio State (6-11, 1-7) Thursday at 10 a.m.

Thursday's four quarterfinal matchups will be streamed online through BTN Plus and will require a subscription. International fans can watch all of the Terps' tournament action at http://international.btn2go.com/ with a subscription.

Friday's Semifinals and Sunday's Big Ten championship game will be televised around the world on the Big Ten Network and the BTN2Go app. Click here to get your channel number for BTN. With a win over the Buckeyes Thursday, the Terrapins will play either fourth-seeded Penn State or fifth-seeded Michigan State Friday at 1 p.m. The Big Ten championship game will be Sunday at 1 p.m

Maryland beat Ohio State, 6-0, on Oct. 3 in College Park. Senior Katie Gerzabek led the way with six points off of two goals and two assists on the day. For the full recap, log on to umterps.com.

The Terps beat No. 14 Iowa, 4-1, Sunday on Senior Day in College Park to win the first Big Ten title for the University of Maryland. Maryland has won 11 straight games since Sept. 26, including seven straight conference games.

Twelve Terps have combined to score 79 goals this year and four Terrapins have scored at least 10 goals – Maxine Fluharty (15), Sarah Sprink (12), Moira Putsch (11) and Anna Dessoye (11). Gerzabek leads Maryland, and the Big Ten, in assists with 20. Dessoye leads the team with 38 points. The Terps' defense has allowed just 21 goals this year.

The Terrapins lead the Big Ten in all offensive team categories and the nation in scoring margin (3.22) and scoring average (4.39). For the full Big Ten statistical rankings, click here.
