Craddock Named Lou Groza Semifinalist

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Junior kicker Brad Craddock has been selected as one of 20 semifinalists for the 2014 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, the Palm Beach Sports Commission announced Thursday.

Craddock, who was a semifinalist for the award in 2013, is a perfect 14-for-14 this season, including eight made field goals from 40 or more yards, and is one of only two kickers with 10 or more made field goals yet to miss a kick.

The native of Adelaide, Australia, has made 20 consecutive field goals dating back to last season, which is the longest active streak in FBS and a Maryland record. In addition, Craddock's streak of successful kicks is the third-longest streak in Big Ten history and is four shy of the conference record held by former Ohio State kicker Mike Nugent (24, 2001-02).

This season, Craddock has set the Maryland record for the longest field goal in school history, a 57 yarder, which came against Ohio State on Oct. 4 and hit his first career game-winning field goal, a 43 yarder, to defeat Penn State on Nov. 1.

Semifinalists will be voted on by FBS head coaches and sports information directors, past Groza finalists, and national and regional football writers to select the three finalists. These finalists will be announced on Nov. 24 and honored at the 23rd annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Awards Banquet on Dec. 9 in West Palm Beach, Fla. The winner will be announced live on ESPN at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday, Dec. 11.
