COLLEGE PARK, Md. – On the field, the Maryland football team experienced a successful 2014 season with high-profile road wins at Michigan and Penn State and a second consecutive trip to the postseason. Off the field, the Terps experienced a 14 percent increase in its attendance figures according to a report released by CBSSports.com.
The 14 percent increase is the second-largest increase among Power Five schools trailing only Texas A&M (21%). Texas A&M expanded its stadium for this past season.
Maryland averaged 46,981 fans for six home dates this season after averaging 41,278 fans for seven home dates a year ago. A total of 281,884 fans passed through Capital One Field at Byrd Stadiums turnstiles during the 2014 season. It is the highest total attendance number for a six-game home schedule since 2007 (307,580).
For the first time since the 2007 season, Maryland sold out two home games. Maryland's matchups with Michigan State and Ohio State drew sellout crowds.
In addition, Maryland increased its season ticket sales in football 25 percent from 2013 and 35 percent from 2012. The Terps' increase in season ticket sales in 2014 represented the largest growth in more than five years.
