COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland Athletics announced today that Joe Foley has been named Deputy Athletics Director, Intercollegiate Athletics Development. This position will have a dual report to the Assistant Vice President of University Development and the Director of Athletics.

Foley brings more than a decade of experience into his new role in College Park. He has held senior level fundraising positions most recently at Boston College and Ohio University.

At Maryland, Foley will serve as athletics' head fundraiser, unit manager and chief strategist. As a senior staff member of the athletics department, Foley will collaborate with University Relations and other campus constituents on university capital campaign planning, future projects and all other fundraising initiatives. In addition, he will oversee all philanthropic giving for athletics through a wide range of initiatives and he will also oversee all aspects of planning, implementation and execution of intercollegiate athletics fundraising and alumni relations programs.  Foley will work directly with Hall of Famer Gary Williams on fundraising initiatives and leadership gifts, which will include the New Cole Field House project.

Prior to joining the Terrapins, Foley spent four-plus years at Boston College serving as the Associate Director, Athletic Capital Giving and the Director, Athletic Major Giving for the past year. Foley oversaw all major giving activities for Boston College Athletics including supervising the major gift fundraising staff. Foley and his team's efforts resulted in more than 160 new commitments of at least $100,000, including 16 new commitments of $1 million to $5 million since June 2010. In addition, he helped Boston College raise over $90 million for various athletics priorities since June 2010 and also contributed to the 57% increase in annual athletics donors since June 2010. 

Prior to his time at Boston College, Foley served as the Director of Development for the College of Business and the College of Health and Human Services at Ohio University.  From 2005 to 2007, he worked for the University of Richmond where he oversaw ticket operations and ticket sales efforts. Foley began his career as a Marketing and Sales Assistant at Bowling Green State University in 2004.

A four-year letterwinner in track and field, Foley earned his Bachelor of Science in business administration, marketing from Northeastern University in 2002. Foley earned his Master of Business Administration and a Master of Sports Administration from Ohio University in 2004.
