Director for Special Events

The Director for Special Events coordinates the overall planning, management, and invoicing of special events held within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics facilities at the University of Maryland College Park; manages both athletic department and special events; manages Special Event budget, to include invoice coordination and applicable reports, provides coverage of events as well as the supervision of event staff; assists with the recruitment, hiring, and training of part time staff; interacts with sponsors, clients, and guests in a manner consistent with an attitude exhibiting the highest level of customer service, and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. At least 5 years previous experience with promotion and event planning; Strong oral and written communication skills; Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; Excellent organizational skills; Ability to prioritize work responsibilities and shift attention among changing tasks and priorities; Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., walk and stand for prolonged periods of time. Must be available to work evenings and weekends. Proficiency in Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint. At least 5 years experience with promotion and event planning preferred. Athletic and concert planning experience desired. Experience in the digital space and social platforms (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pintrest, YouTube) and experience with budgets preferred.
