Terps Return Home to Face Border Rival WVU Saturday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland returns to College Park for its second home date of the season as the Terps take on West Virginia from Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium Saturday. Kickoff is set for 12:01 p.m. With a victory Saturday, Maryland will move to 3-0 for the second consecutive season and the 26th time in program history.

Maryland scored 24 points in its victory over USF Saturday increasing its season total to 76. The Terps are averaging 38.0 points per game through their first two contests, which ranks fourth in the Big Ten. It is the second straight season Maryland has scored at least 75 points in its first two games. On defense, the Terps held USF to 83 yards rushing in Saturday's victory. Since 2012, it is the 10th time a Maryland defense has accomplished that feat and the first time since Maryland held Virginia Tech to 54 yards rushing last season (Nov. 16, 2013).

MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY

Maryland will celebrate Military Appreciation Day Saturday when it welcomes West Virginia to Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.

At halftime, the Mighty Sound of Maryland Marching Band will put on spectacular show honoring the 200th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner. During the game, six Cadets from the Army ROTC Terrapin Battalion will take their oath of office live on the field. The oath is being administered by LTC Curtis Burrell, the Terrapin Battalion Commander. These young men and women are committing to complete officer training while students at the University of Maryland and one day serve their country as officers in the United States Army.

In addition, military personnel will be honored throughout the game for their service.

Breakin' Down Brown

Quarterback C.J. Brown threw for two scores and 201 yards in Saturday's victory over USF a week after totaling172 yards of total offense, while rushing for three scores and throwing for another in a win over JMU. Brown's two touchdown passes against USF increased his career total to 43 touchdowns responsible for. That mark is 10 shy of the school record and is the 18th-highest total among active players at the FBS level.

  • Brown has accounted for 4,604 yards of total offense during his career. He ranks seventh on Maryland's all-time list and 20th nationally among active players.

  • Brown is the only player in school history to pass for and rush for 20 or more touchdowns. Brown has 23 career passing touchdowns and 20 career rushing touchdowns.

  • The sixth-year quarterback is averaging 5.12 yards per carry for his career, the 20th-highest average all-time at Maryland.

  • Brown has seven 100-yard yard rushing performances, which is tied for the fourth-most among active QBs nationally.

  • Brown rushed for 100-yards or more in four games last season, which tied for the eighth-highest single-season total in school history. Steve Atkins (1978) and Charlie Wysocki (1980) hold the school record with eight 100-yard rushing performances.

On The Offense

ALL-PURPOSE DIGGS
Wide receiver Stefon Diggs leads the team in receptions (12) and receiving yards (103) through the first two contests. On Saturday, Diggs totaled 115 all-purpose yards with 65 kick return yards and 50 yards receiving. Diggs ranks second among active FBS career leaders in all-purpose yards per game averaging 151.75 yards per game.

  • Diggs' seven catches Saturday moved him into a tie for 11th in school history with 100 receptions.

  • His 3,035 career all-purpose yards is the 25th-highest active total nationally.

  • He ranks 11th in Maryland history with 1,538 career receiving yards.

BROWN CARRIES THE LOAD
Running back Wes Brown led the Terps in carries (13) and rushing yards (61) Saturday in Tampa. The sophomore leads the squad with 142 yards rushing through two games this season with a team-high long run of 33 yards, which came against JMU (8/30).

  • Brown is averaging 5.5 yards per carry in 2014.

  • He is also averaging a team-best 71.0 yards per game.

LEAK HAULS IN TWO
Wide receiver Marcus Leak pulled in two touchdown receptions Saturday, one of 10 yards and one of 44 yards, marking his first career multi-TD game.

  • Leak is averaging a team-high 17.8 yards per reception.

  • The 44-yard touchdown catch is the longest scoring play of the season for the Terps.

ROSS ON THE CAREER RUSHING LIST
Running back Brandon Ross eclipsed the 1,200-yard rushing plateau against James Madison with a 86-yard performance against the Dukes along with scoring his sixth career rushing touchdown. Ross now has 1,277 rushing yards in three years at Maryland, which is 25th all-time.

  • Ross is tied for 19th in school history averaging 4.68 yards per carry.

  • He ranks second on the team with four 100-yard career rushing performances.

On The Defense/Special Teams

GET TO THE QUARTERBACK
Senior Andre Monroe anchors one end of the d-line and is Maryland's active leader in sacks. The product from Upper Marlboro, Md., has 15.5 career sacks after totaling a team-best 9.5 last season, which tied for 21st nationally.

  • Monroe's 15.5 sacks is tied for 12th in school history with Adrian Moten.

  • With 9.5 sacks in 2013, Monroe posted the best single-season sack total in school history since Kris Jenkins posted 10.0 sacks in 2000..

  • His 26.0 career tackles for loss is tied for 11th in school history.

BACK TO RECEIVE THE KICK
Maryland may boast two of the most dangerous returners in the country this season. Diggs has totaled 1,118 career kick return yards, which ranks fifth in school history, while Likely has 301 career punt return yards. That total ranks 15th in school history.

  • Diggs is averaging 41.3 yards per kick return this season, which is good for third nationally.

  • For his career, Diggs is averaging 28.0 yards per kick return, which ranks ninth among active FBS players.

  • Likely has a career punt return average of 14.3, the second-highest average in school history.

  • The sophomore DB leads the Big Ten with a 19.2 yard punt return average.

IT'S GOOD
Junior kicker Brad Craddock, a member of the Lou Groza Award watch list, connected on his 33rd career field goal Saturday increasing his career percentage to 76.7, the second-highest in school history.

Gameday Notes

Scout Team Players of the Week: Each Thursday during the regular season head coach Randy Edsall will annouce scout team players of the week. This week's scout team players are wide receiver Juwann Winfree (offense), defensive lineman Keith Bowers (defense) and running back Kenneth Goins (special teams).

Flag Bearers: Offensive lineman Andrew Zeller will carry the American flag, and defensive back Sean Davis will carry the Maryland state flag during Saturday's introductions.

Game Captains With the establishment of the leadship council, Edsall will name game captains prior to each contest. The captains for Saturday's game against USF are offensive lineman Ryan Doyle (offense), defensive back J.T. Ventura (defense), and running back Tehuti Miles (special teams).
