COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Amber Meville notched a mark of 6-01.25 to win the high jump as the Maryland track and field team had a successful day at the Terrapin Invitational Saturday at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex
Melville was one of a number of Terps to win their event at the lone home meet of the indoor season. The All-American made her final attempt at 6-01.25 to take the event. Izzy Laurel took third in the event while Peyton Wade notched an eighth place finish.
Reigning Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week Thea LaFond won the long jump with Wade and Kayla Richardson also notching top-six finishes.
Chioma Onyekwere won the shot put with Claudia Ababio claiming third. Ababio flipped the script in the weight throw, taking the event title with Onyekwere placing second.
Noella Anyangwe was the top finisher in the 60-meter hurdles in a final that included three Terps. Anyangwe placed second in a time of 8.80, while LaFond and Richardson also made the final.
In the 600m, the Terps had five of the top seven competitors. Shade Pratt took second in a time of 1:30.50.
Emily VandeWater followed up her solid performance at the Penn State Relays with second place finish in the 800m. VandeWater notched a time of 2:18.05.
Maryland was the class of the women's competition, scoring 138.50 to win the team title.
On the men's side, Dan Trettel won two events, the mile and 800m. Freshman Diego Lyon had a solid Maryland debut, notching second place finish in the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.65. Josh Landsman took third in the high jump.
In the 600m, Terrence Maliff used a nice charge on the final lap to take the 600m in a time of 1:22.95. Brandon Thompson finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles final in a time of 7.08.
