COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Before the Maryland and Penn State football teams squared off on Saturday in Baltimore, student-athletes from both schools joined forces to make a positive impact in their communities throughout the week leading up to the game.

Maryland's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Penn State's Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB) partnered to raise awareness and support women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

“This collaboration is a testament to the quality of student-athlete leaders at both institutions and the interest they have in making a difference in people's lives,” said Dr. Sue Sherburne, assistant athletics director for life skills and career development at Maryland.

Maryland and Penn State student-athletes and staff collected infant and toddler clothing, diapers, bedding and monetary donations to be presented to the House of Ruth Shelter.

Members of Maryland's SAAC also assisted with lawn and maintenance duties, in addition to interacting with families staying at the House of Ruth prior to Saturday's football game.
