Vongphoumy Takes Third at Rebel Intercollegiate

OXFORD, Miss. - Juliet Vongphoumy tied for third place as the Maryland women's golf team posted its best finish of the year on the final day of the Rebel Intercollegiate Sunday.

Vongphoumy posted a 68 in the third round to finish two under par (214) for the tournament.

"I'm very proud of Juliet for her round today,” head coach Diana Cantu said. “She is so consistent but was able to go low today as some putts finally started falling her way. She adds another top finish to her resume.”

Heidi Baek tied for 15th with a three-round tally of 220 after notching a 75 Sunday.

“Heidi continued her steady play as she gains confidence and improves consistently,” Cantu said.

Brooke Kochevar tied for 32nd after shooting her tourney-low score of 71 in the third round.

“Brooke fought hard for the third round and it's well deserved. I'm excited to see her development on this team.

Panitta Yusabai tied for 50th with a three-round score of 228. Maryland finished seventh overall with an 886, ons-stroke shy of Kennesaw State.

“Overall, we will take a lot of learning and confidence from this week,” Cantu said. “We beat several teams ranked ahead of us. The hard work pays off and we have been patient all year waiting for it to start showing. We've definitely made lots of improvement throughout the year but it was until this week that it showed in the results.”

The Terps return to action April 18 at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invite in Columbus, Ohio.
