COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland football sophomore Ty Johnson was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Johnson helped Maryland rout Purdue by rushing for a career-high 204 yards on seven carries (29.1 yards/c) and two touchdowns. It was the most rushing yards for a Maryland running back since Brandon Ross totaled 245 rushing yards against Indiana on Nov. 21, 2015.
Johnson had over half of Maryland's impressive 400-yard rushing outburst as the Terps handled Purdue, 50-7, to move to 4-0 under first-year Head Coach DJ Durkin.
Johnson was also named Honorable Mention National Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards.
Johnson and the Terps return to action on Saturday at Penn State. The game can be seen live on the Big Ten Network at noon.
