COLLEGE PARK, Md. - In addition to their successes in athletic competition, Maryland student-athletes worked diligently in the classroom this past fall semester as their accomplishments attest.
Two hundred and twenty-seven (227) student-athletes were named to the Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll after earning a semester GPA of 3.00 or higher.
“Our mission is to help student-athletes build a foundation for a successful future and that begins in the classroom,” director of athletics Kevin Anderson said. “Our student-athletes are tremendously committed to excellence both in the class room and on the playing surface, and are proud representatives of the University of Maryland.”
Maryland placed 59 student-athletes on the fall Academic All-Big Ten Team, where football, women's soccer and women's cross country led the way with 15, 14 and 13 student-athletes on the list, respectively.
Eighty-six (86) student-athletes were named to their respective College Dean's Lists while 89 students earned semester grade-point averages of 3.50 or higher. More than 225 student-athletes earned semester GPAs of 3.00 or higher.
"I am very proud of the ongoing efforts of our student-athletes to work hard in the academic arena," said Chris Uchacz, Associate Director of Athletics and Director of the Academic Services & Career Development Unit. "They work hard and value the educational opportunities they receive, culminating in the ultimate goal of graduation. It truly takes a village and the support our student-athletes receive from the coaches, the administration, and especially the ASCDU team, is outstanding."
Twenty-seven (27) student-athletes earned their degrees at Fall Commencement in December. The graduating class included 10 academic all-conference selections.
