Four Student Athletes Named Commencement Senior Marshals

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland student athletes Alex Anthony (women's soccer), Brionna Jones (women's basketball), Mike McCarney (men's lacrosse) and Emily VandeWater (women's track & field) were named Senior Marshals for this spring's campus campus-wide commencement ceremony.

"Having four of our student-athletes named Senior Marshals is a great honor," said Senior Associate Athletics Director for Academics and Student Development Dr. Sue Sherburne. "Being selected is reflective of the personal commitment each of them has made to academic excellence and their desire to be among the very best in their academic disciplines.  They are shining examples of the term STUDENT-athlete.  We are proud of their work and the positive impact they have made on the University of Maryland, the Athletic Department, and their respective teams.”

The title is one of the highest honors a student can receive at the University of Maryland, as the marshals lead the graduation procession and are invited to a special luncheon following the ceremony. The four were selected among a pool of 21 student athletes nominated, and will walk at the XFINITY Center on May 18 for graduation.
