Terps Finish Strong at Janney VCU Shootout

RICHMOND, Va. – The Maryland men's golf team finished strong at the Janney VCU Shootout Tuesday at the Tuckahoe Creek Course at The Country Club of Virginia. The Terps moved up five spots in the team standings after the second round.

The 14 teams competing played the first 18 holes Monday, but due to inclement weather, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes. The second round was played Tuesday.

As a team, the Terrapins shaved 25 strokes off of their first round score in Tuesday's second round. They went seven strokes under par as a team, finishing with a combined score of 569 (297-272) and sixth out of 14 teams.

"Proud of the way the guys battled back today.  This score (-16) is the lowest round we've had in my time," head coach Jason Rodenhaver said. "We didn't let down after last week in Kiawah. We didn't practice well prior to VCU and we didn't have it yesterday. The weather delay was a blessing in disguise, we had a chance to regroup and they played brilliantly today."

Sophomore Timothy Colanta led the way for Maryland, tying for seventh on the leaderboard. He shot a 137 (70-67), which was seven strokes under par. Colanta grabbed his highest collegiate career finish.

Junior David Kocher tied for 14th in the standings with his overall score of 139 (73-66), which was -5 overall. Sophomore Justin Feldman and freshman Peter Knade both finished with scores of 147. Feldman shot a 68 in the second round Tuesday and Knade shot a 71.

Freshmen Bennett Buch earned a score of 152 (78-74) in his first collegiate event.

Maryland was one of 14 teams competing in the tournament, including Richmond, Boston College, West Virginia, Charlotte, George Washington, Virginia Tech, East Carolina, James Madison, Old Dominion, Iowa State, UNC Greensboro, Radford and tournament-host VCU.

Next, the Terrapins will compete in the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate in Raleigh, N.C. Oct. 3-4.
