Terps in the NFL: Week 2

By Ryan Satsky, Maryland Athletics Communications

The NFL leader in receiving yards through two games is a former Maryland Terrapin – and it isn't even a close race. Minnesota Vikings sophomore stud Stefon Diggs racked up another 182 yards during Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers to increase his season total to 285 yards, while also reaching the endzone once. Diggs is nearly 60 yards ahead of the next closest receiver.

Diggs was rewarded for his Week 2 efforts by being named NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

However, receiving yards isn't the only category that Diggs finds himself atop the league leaders. Amongst wideouts with at least ten receptions, Diggs ranks first in first downs (12), second in yards per catch (17.8), and second in receptions (16). Additionally, his 182 yards against the Packers are the most in a game by any receiver this season.

Another former Maryland pass catcher made a significant impact in Week 2, as veteran tight end Vernon Davis hauled in five catches for 51 yards. Davis is settling comfortably into his role as Jordan Reed's backup in Washington.

Jaguars rookie Yannick Ngakoue produced the first big play of his young NFL career on Sunday with a strip sack of Philip Rivers. Ngakoue chipped in another two tackles.

Here is how other Terps performed throughout the NFL during week 2:

- San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith: caught three passes for 55 yards and a touchdown in a 27-46 loss to Carolina

- Denver Broncos DT Darius Kilgo: recorded one tackle in a 34-20 win over Indianapolis

- Philadelphia Eagles CB Nolan Carroll: finished with three tackles in a 29-14 win over Chicago on Monday Night Football
